BoxingScene.com has been advised that Gary Shaw put in the winning purse bid for the rights to Timothy Bradley's mandatory defense of the WBO junior welterweight title against interim-champion Lamont Peterson. On Wednesday at the WBO's office in Puerto Rico, a rep for Shaw put in a winning bid of $575,000. Top Rank, who promote Peterson, put in a bid of $402,000.
The fight is heading to December 5 on Showtime. The site is up in the air. There were plans to hold it at a site in California.
The WBO laid down some of the weirdest terms that I have ever heard. According to one source with information on the purse bid, if the fight was going to be held in California, the split would have been 60/40 in favor of the interim-champ Peterson - because the fight was taking place in Bradley's home state of California. If they hold the fight in Nevada, the home state of Peterson's promoter, Top Rank, then the split is 60/40 in favor of the champion Bradley. If they hold the fight in any other state, then the split is 50/50.
