Israel Vazquez vs Al Seeger: Look For a Brutal Return

The return of former champion Israel Vazquez (43-4, 31KOs) won't be pretty. Comeback opponent Al Seeger (28-4, 22KOs) won't know what him after this fight is over. As previously reported, the return is set for October 10 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California. After multiple surgeries to correct a detached retina injury, Vazquez returns for the first time since last March's trilogy bout with Rafael Marquez.

The fight will also be the debut of Vazquez in the featherweight division. I don't give Seeger much of a chance for many reasons. He won't be ready physically or mentally. Seeger is more of a super bantamweight than a featherweight. Between 2006 to 2008, he rode a three fight losing streak that saw him drop a decision to Mike Oliver and get stopped in eight by Daniel Ponce De Leon. Last July he tried his hand at featherweight and was blown out by Yuriorkis Gamboa in one round.

Then comes the mental half of it. In Seeger's last outing, back in May, he battered a young Benjamin Flores for eight rounds during their Dallas, Texas bout. Flores did not feel well when the fight was stopped and passed out. He was stretched out and taken to a local hospital for emergency surgery for swelling on the brain. Flores died a few days later. Seeger was said to have been mentally crushed by Flores' death.

Many are not sure if Seeger's head will be there. Most fighters never mentally recover from being on the opposite end of a ring death. Vazquez is his most dangerous and most experienced opponent to date. I think Vazquez will go right through an overmatched Seeger and move on to a much bigger fight.
