There appears to be some confusion in the showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, scheduled for November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. There is so much money at stake that Cotto does not want to risk his WBO welterweight title. Top Rank's Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters, told The Philippine Star that Cotto is not willing to pay the sanctioning fee involved. Arum says the fee could be as high as $400,000 dollars.
No [the title is not on the line]," Arum said. He doesnt want to pay the sanction fee. So, no, Miguel Cotto will not stake his crown against Manny Pacquiao. Nobody in the US cares about the title."
The WBO president Francisco Paco Valcarcel has told reporters in Puerto Rico that Pacquiao-Cotto should have the WBO title on the line. Arum says the fight will be just as big, with or without the WBO title at stake.
