Bantamweight Eric Morel is steaming over the recent comments that were made by WBO champion Fernando Motiel. During a recent interview with ESTO, Montiel said that he was willing to postpone a fight with Morel to pursue a unification bout with IBF champion Joseph Agbeko, who defeated Vic Darchinyan last weekend.
Morel was due to fight Montiel in June. The fight was postponed when Montiel suffered an injury in training camp. The fight is tentative to take place in the fall.
"Are you afraid to Eric? We are so angry that we would fight him tomorrow if possible," said Cirilo Morel, father and trainer, to Primera Hora. "Montiel's attitude is causing us problems. If you do not want to fight with Eric, then leave the title vacant. We had five months without a fight because of him and we have tired of waiting."
Even if Montiel wanted a unification bout with Agbeko, BoxingScene.com was told that it wouldn't be possible. Agbeko must face his mandatory Yonnhy Perez next.
