| Daniel Jacobs vs Ishe Smith in The Works For 8/22
|
|
By Rick Reeno BoxingScene.com was advised that hot middleweight prospect Daniel Jacobs (17-0, 15KOs) is going to face his biggest test to date, veteran Ishe Smith (21-3, 9KOs), as the August 22 opening bout to Paulie Malignaggi vs. Juan Diaz at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. HBO will televise both fights. Smith, a junior middleweight, will move up middleweight to fight Jacobs. The fight will take place at 160, give or take a pound. Robert Guerrero also appears on the show in a title fight with IBF super featherweight champion Malcolm Klassen, which will also be televised by the network. |

Well, Ishe has been hemming and hawing about HBO (as well as the other networks) freezing him out, so this truely is a "do or fukin die" for Smith... expect him to be 100% ready. I REALLY like what I've seen from Jacobs, but I'm riding hard w/ Ishe on this one. |

This is a style learning fight for Jacobs, thats it. It's not the best fight for him to shine on HBO, but a great fight in terms of matchmaking and helping a fighter mature and become a complete talent. Because now he'll have a sense of what to do when he gets in with a bigger stronger guy who ... |

I think its a pretty good fight actually. If Jacobs is the special fighter they seem to think he is, he should be able to beat Smith and even though it'll probably be ugly as hell to watch, I think its the type of matchup Jacobs should just have to go through. |

Im gonna pick Ishe Smith personally.
I think its an awful decision by Jacobs people. Even if Jacobs wins he will look terrible. |
Crap, I thought HBO's co-feature was Klassen/Guerrero. Oh well.
It is. The article was updated because the show is a triple header. |
