Promoter Frank Warren today told Steve Bunce that Kell Brook, welterweight, and Kevin Mitchell, super-featherweight, will be added to the Amir Khan versus Andrey Kotelnik undercard.

Brook will defend his British title; Michael Lomax, who won the Prizefighter welterweight tournament, could be the man in the other corner.  Mitchell will warm up for his mooted September world title tilt against Roman Martinez by taking on a yet-to-be-named opponent.  Martinez took the WBO super-featherweight title from Mitchell’s gym mate Nicky Cook in March.

Brook is one to watch, he won the vacant British belt when champion Kevin McIntyre was stripped due to inactivity.  Brook then cemented his claim on the title by destroying McIntyre in a single round when the two did finally meet.  Lomax, though, will be a tough test, experienced at the British level; Michael may see this as his last crack at the British belt.

Enzo Maccarinelli also popped up on the Setanta show, telling Bunce that he will retire if he loses his fight against the unbeaten Russian Denis Lebedev on the MEN undercard.  Macca, whose ring walk tune tells us that he ‘Won’t back down’, feels there will be nothing left for him in boxing if he cannot overcome Lebedev.

The fight is a WBO cruiserweight title eliminator, and a win will give Enzo the chance to avenge his shocking stoppage loss to Ola Afolabi.  Enzo is now trained by the experience Karl Ince, relocating to Oldham to find the missing ingredient to his boxing style.

Enzo is a likeable character, and you cannot fault his desire to prove himself, he turned down easier fights in order to redeem himself against Lebedev.  It is a gamble, but Enzo deserves a break, and he will be fighting for his career come July the 18th.
