According to WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. may get pushed back to September 19, which falls on the weekend celebration of "Mexican Independence." Mayweather, through a press release, revealed on Sunday that he injured his ribs in training and was unable to move forward with the Marquez bout. The fight is scheduled for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"It's a shame, but ultimately I'm not angry because this is a physical sport and we risk a lot. But I do feel upset because I had a great training camp and it's unfortunate. Let's see what happens. I hope they reschedule it for September 19 in Las Vegas or earlier if possible, but I'm not going to stop going to the gym. I will continue training to get even better. It is unfortunate that this has happened," Marquez told The Record .

Marquez says the September date was likely, and says HBO and Golden Boy Promotions have been in talks for that particular date.

I hope this fight gets rescheduled. I think JMM can put it on Floyd. If he doesn't beat him, he will at least push him to the brink of defeat.
