According to reports in Mexico, trainer/manager Nacho Beristain has broken ties with undefeated bantamweight prospect Abner Mares over his recent signing with manager Frank Espinoza, who also handles numerous fighters such as Israel Vazquez.

It appears that Beristain was upset that Mares signed the deal without letting him know and/or speaking to him about it. Nacho spoke to Mares and told him not to return to the Romanza Gym in Iztacalco, Mexico.

"Abner will no longer train in this gym. It has really bothered me that he signed with Frank Espinoza and did not tell me. I like to know who I'm working with and who I'm not. It's not that he closed the door. It was a decision he and his dad thought was appropriate, so I hope they do well by signing with Mr. Espinoza, but we will no longer train him," Beristain told The Record.

[B]Mares can choose whoever he wants has his manager, Its obvious Nacho likes loyalty and likes to train/manager his fighters career but didnt he reject $750,000 for JMM to fight Pacquiao in a rematch only for him to accept $30,000 for JMM to fly and defend his own title in indonesia against chri...

To Nacho's defense, I understand where he's coming from... It's no secret he (beristain) is very involved in the career of his fighters, much like Roach. I'm sure Mares had some sort of grasp on that. I guess Nacho felt like there was no common courtesy in Mares' decision, and being myself a ...

nacho feels he was stabbed in the back. but sometimes you have to deal with reality. mares is his own man and knows exactly what he's doing. he's probably not satisfied with nacho. bolting his camp is like a pacquiao left hook that landed on nacho's face.

I think it was more about having a spy in his training camp against rafa and izzy. If mares has ties to the izzy camp that is bad for nachos business. I think nacho made the right move.I wouldn't have anyone with ties to another camp in the gym eyeing the strategy.
