WBC light flyweight champion Eric Ortiz who defends his title against No.1 contender Brian Viloria of the Philippines on the “Double Trouble” card which features Manny Pacquiao against Hector Velazquez and Erik Morales against Zahir Raheem at the Staples Center on September 10 has set a good example.

During a visit to the WBC headquarters in Mexico City to fulfill a mandatory obligation regarding weight control, Ortiz came in at 51 kg which was within the allowable margin set by WBC regulations for the light flyweight limit of 48.988 kg.

But what pleased the WBC was when Ortiz requested the WBC to give him a letter asking the authorities at the National Pedagogic University to allow him to be absent for a few days because of his upcoming title defense.

Ortiz is studying Educational Administration. In a statement the WBC said Ortiz "becomes an example to follow. This makes us very proud of him.We believe world champions can also devote their energy to other noble endeavors such as this, taking advantage of their youth to plan for their future after they retire from the arenas.”
