Miguel Cotto does not agree with the tentative idea of Antonio Margarito headlining a summer event in Mexico. During a hearing that was held on Tuesday, Margarito had his license revoked by the California State Athletic Commission. The CSAC felt that Margarito and his trainer violated the rules when a foreign substance was discovered in Margarito's hand wraps before the fight with Shane Mosley on January 24. The suspension would prevent Margarito from fighting in the United States, but not in other countries like Mexico.

Cotto is not keen to the idea of Margarito fighting in Mexico.

"You know what. If it was up to me, we should all abide by the rules. He was suspended for a year. I don't think he should fight. It's not right for him to fight somewhere else. He should abid by the rules. If he can't fight in the United States then he shouldn't fight at all," Cotto said.

Bob Arum of Top Rank, who promotes both Cotto and Margarito, told BoxingScene.com on Wednesday that he will do all in his power to make sure Margarito fights again in 2009. Arum does not agree with Miguel, but as Margarito's promoter - he has to do what's best for his fighter.

"Miguel is certainly entitled to his opinion. As far as I’m concerned, California revoked his license. He has a right to make a living and Mexico, in certain places, has indicted that they will provide him with a license. I’m his promoter and I will do what’s best for him. Miguel may feel otherwise. I have expressed my opinion. I don’t say that everyone has to agree with me or has to have the same opinion as me," Arum said.

if the suspension of margarito is effective only in california or in the u.s., and therefore he can fight outside california or america, his suspension will not serve any purpose. it will not deter any boxer or trainer to cheat again... and again.

Most sapient fans will always suspect Margarito's "victory". Anyway, why even care about that now? The principle of karma already worked its way, Cotto is back at title contention looking for possible matchups against Mosley and Berto. And where is Margarito? Suspended, trying to survive by fight...
