Willie Savannah, manager/trainer of former unified lightweight champion Juan Diaz, has informed BoxingScene.com that a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez is close to done for February 28, with HBO televising. The venue is still not finalized, but Savannah has informed me that Marquez has reportedly changed his stance on taking the fight in Diaz’s backyard of Houston, Texas.

“Las Vegas is becoming a ghost town. If Marquez wants to make the kind of money that he wants to make - he has to come to Houston. He can’t make that kind of money is Las Vegas. His fight with Joel Casamayor did nothing out there,” Savannah said.

Savannah says the undercard may feature another Houston favorite, Rocky Juarez, facing WBO featherweight champion Steven Luevano.

Marquez is a good technician inside the ring, but he's not a big draw. His fight with Rocky Juarez attracted only 3,000 out of a 7,500-capacity venue. His biggest attendance was when he fought Manny Pacquiao. I think counter-punchers like Marquez are rather boring boxers. Only boxing purists like...

JMM is a good fighter no doubt about that. The problem with JMM is he doesn't pack the x factor. He can be a good trainer someday but not so much of a fighter to watch on TV.
