Most were shaking their heads last week when former four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, 46, approached Sauerland Event's American agent, trying to secure a a fight with seven-foot, 300-pound WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev. The purse for the fight was going to be Holyfield's lowest in many years.

It appears that Holyfield is still facing hard times with his finances. Since the start of the year, Holyfield was facing all kinds of debt related issues, with defaulted loans, back child support and missed payments for his home.

According to a recent report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Holyfield has not complied with a September 1 deadline, set by way of a court order, that directed him to meet his child support responsibilities for his 11-year-old son, one of his 11 children.

Holyfield has to appear in court on October 22 to answer why he never complied with the court order that gave him until the September 1 to make good on the outstanding money. Holyfield has not paid the legal fees of his son's mother, or his child's private school tuition, which forced the mother to send her son to public school. Holyfield is to provide $3,000 per month in child support for his son, and last made a $9,000 payment in July.

The article says that Holyfield has grossed more than $248 million over his career in purses, but he took some heavy monetary hits with his two previous divorces, several failed business ventures and his child support payments, for 9 of the 11 kids, which are estimated to run as high as $500,000 annually. Holyfield has two kids with his third wife.
