It's only a few days away from his Saturday bout with Ricardo Mayorga, but "Sugar" Shane Mosley still has WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito on his mind. Top Rank is planning Margarito's return for early 2009, and Mosley is seen by insiders as the frontrunner to land the fight. Mosley, a former three-division champion, expects to land the opponent slot for Margarito's first defense.

He says a good boxer, with speed and a decent punch is the perfect combination to beat a fighter like Margarito. If the fight comes off, Mosley won't take a step backwards, he is willing to stay in the pocket and punch it out with the Mexican warrior.

"Margarito can be out boxed and I can box and I can punch. I can stay in the pocket and punch with him too. I think the speed will be a big factor. Margarito is a true champion and a true warrior who will fight anyone. I think it's a fight that everyone would like to see," Mosley told writer Antonio Castro.

I actually think Mosely may beat Margarito but it depends on how much he has left.

I am picking Mayorga in this fight. Shane's defense is primarily his reflexes, which aren't what they used to be. He doesn't slide or block well either. I think Mayorga will be able to land and hurt Shane. His bad trainer won't give any good advice. Mayorga by 10th rd KO.
For a speed guy, Mosley is pretty easy to hit and was very discouraged by Cotto's punches by the 5th round. I don't see how he can knock Margarito out, so if he goes into the fight with that mindset, he will lose. Mosley looks horrible against bigger opponents.
...
