UK superstar Amir Khan, holder of the Commonwealth lightweight title, is still on the hunt for an American trainer and is stepping up the search. A meeting has been set between Khan and "trainer of the year" winner Freddie Roach, who handles fighters such as Manny Pacquiao and James Toney.
Since Khan fired long-time trainer Oliver Harrison a few months ago, the goal of the young champion is to hook up with a trainer from America to sharpen up his skills. Khan spent some time with Roach in 2005 while training at [Roach's] Wild Card Gym in California. Roach told writer George Kimball that he plans to meet with Khan on July 27 to see if a deal can be reached.
Theyve asked me to train him, and Im flying over July 27 to meet with them, Roach said. I like the kid, so if we can work things out with his people, theres a good chance I will be working with him.
