WBC/WBA cruiserweight champion David Haye is planning to clean up the heavyweight division once he's finished with UK-rival Enzo Maccarinelli on March 8 at the 02 Arena in London.
Haye wants to add Macca's WBO title around his waist and then he plans to move to heavyweight. Haye, 27, tells The Guardian that he plans to take the toughest fights out there because he wants to retire by 30.
My plan is to not box past 30, he explained in an interview with The Guardian. 'That gives me three years to become heavyweight champion of the world. I'm not going to cut any corners, I'm not going to fight any bums, I'm just going to get straight out there and clean up that division. Since Lennox Lewis retired there's been no flagship heavyweight running the show, and I really do believe that's going to be me.
Haye still has Macca to contend with, and he plans to end the fight with the first big punch that connects flush.
It's rare in boxing that you get the two best in the division slugging it out toe-to-toe, Haye sad. The last time two British world champions fought was Nigel Benn against Chris Eubank in 1993. That was huge, but this fight will be more explosive. It will come down to who lands the first clean bomb, and his style is tailor-made for me.
I can't see it going past five rounds. The only way he will win is if he gets a chin transplant from Marvin Hagler!
