UFC superstar Conor McGregor is firing back at Floyd Mayweather Jr., who made several comments about the MMA fighter that went viral. Mayweather stated that he believes "racism still exists in the sport of boxing," and took aim at UFC fighters Ronda Rousey and McGregor.

Mayweather, when was asked by Fighthype.com about his opinion on the current state of boxing, citing racism as the reason that the position of Andre Ward (4th place) was not higher in the pound for pound rankings of the magazine Ring Magazine. He then went further and crossed over into the area of how other fighters, including those in MMA, are given preferred treatment over other combat athletes who are black.

The retired pound-for-pound king believes McGregor is given preferential treatment due to his skin color. Mayweather wondered why he is questioned about his behavior, while the behavior of McGregor (the reigning UFC featherweight champion) it is not questioned.

"And what's so crazy, I really do not know McGregor, had never seen him fight," Mayweather said. "I've heard his name actually one of the workers of our company ... he told me about McGregor. They say talk a lot of trash and people praise him for it, but when I do say I'm cocky and arrogant . much prejudice! Like I said, all I'm saying is this, I'm not racist at all, but I say that racism still exists. "

McGregor took to the social networks to tackle a few different topics, and Mayweather was one of them - including a firm financial layout for a cross-sport showdown.

"Floyd Mayweather, don't ever bring race into my success again. I am an Irishman. My people have been oppressed our entire existence. And still very much are. I understand the feeling of prejudice. It is a feeling that is deep in my blood," McGregor stated.

"In my family's long history of warfare there was a time where just having the name 'McGregor' was punishable by death. Do not ever put me in a bracket like this again. If you want we can organise a fight no problem. I will give you a fair 80/20 split purse in my favour seen as your last fight bombed at every area of revenue."
