WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (26-1, 21KOs) would like to have a September fight in his birth country of Haiti, but it looks unlikely at the moment.

Stevenson was last in the ring in April, when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Sakio Bika, who went down twice in the match.

There is a possibility that the WBC will soon appoint IBF/WBA/WBO champion Sergey Kovalev as his mandatory challenger and order them to once again enter a purse bid. Kovalev was set as the mandatory last December, but then withdraw from that position over a TV conflict as both fighters are under contract to different network.

Stevenson says Haiti may not be able to accommodate a major television network to showcase a live boxing event from the country.

"We will continue to work on presenting a live event in Haiti in September. But the logistics are frightening. There is not enough electricity in the country to meet the needs of a large television network. I would love for that fight to take place. We could show other images [of the country other] than those of misery which have flooding the media for years," said Adonis to the Montreal Journal.
