Cruiserweight Sam Hyde is quickly developing into one of the top prospects in British Boxing, despite having only had two professional fights. Hyde won a points decision on his debut in March over Elvis Dube, before announcing himself on the big stage, by flattening Tommy Gifford in just 56 seconds at the Phones 4U Arena, Manchester in April.

However his development has been hindered slightly by a back injury, which has left him out of action for four months, but Manager Kev Kinsella says he is ready to fire on all cylinders again when he returns to the same venue on September 13th on the Scott Quigg-Paulus Ambunda undercard.

Speaking to BoxingScene.com, Kinsella said: “It’s been a bit stop-start the past few months, but Sam is raring to go now. We’ve got a busy schedule in the next couple of months, starting with the Matchroom show in September and then we’re in Deeside on 3rd October at Dave Coldwell’s show.

“We’ve had no news on opponents, although he might be almost too hard to match after the Gifford fight, but he will be non-stop in the gym.”

The team around Hyde are superb, but there are always doubts as to whether a young prospect can stay grounded with all the attention he is receiving.

But, 20 year old Hyde seems to be a different proposition altogether and there is no chance that he will get carried away by believing the hype that is surrounding him.

Kinsella said: “He is exceptionally grounded and he appreciates people talking about him, but he knows its early days for him at the moment. He lives his life in the gym, which keeps him focused and he is learning all the time.

“He’s also started doing a college course in Salford, which was set up by Jamie Moore and Dom McGuinness, which has also helped him focus as well. As everyone knows, boxers only have a short career and this gives him the chance to progress to having a career after boxing.”

The Sale fighter is clearly doing all the right things, both in and out of the ring. Making sure he is well supported wherever he fights, by personally delivering tickets to his army of fans, as well taking boxing into the community by visiting schools.

The hard hitting young star is developing rapidly, gaining tremendous sparring along the way with Tony Bellew when he was preparing for the Gifford fight.

However, Kinsella states they are in no rush with Hyde, but bigger fights are certainly on the horizon, as he builds towards title fights in the near future.

He said: “Sam will still be learning next year, but we will be looking to gradually step him up. We’ll probably take some international fights and definitely step up the amount of rounds he’ll have because that’s so important for his progress.

“There aren’t that many fighters in the division, so the young guns coming through will be in big fights sooner or later, and that obviously includes Sam.

“One fight potentially down the line is with Jack Massey, who was on the last bill in the arena in April and will also be on it once again with us in September. That could be a real domestic clash, with a title on the line, next year for us. We’ll have to wait and see.”
