Anthony Joshua has played down comments from his promoter Eddie Hearn suggesting he is the best heavyweight in Britain right now.

Writing in his newspaper column, Hearn said he believed Joshua was already capable of beating any of his domestic rivals.

Joshua's next opponent is Argentinian Hector Alfredo Avila who went nine rounds with Finchley fighter Dereck Chisora 12 months ago.

But speaking at the Copper Box on Saturday where he watched his fellow north-Londoner defeat Kevin Johnson on points, Joshua insisted he does not see Chisora as a viable opponent in the short-term.

"It's so far so good in my professional career," Joshua told skysports.com.

"It's early days and I can't complain. I feel like I should be performing the way I am performing at the minute but I'm not getting ahead of myself I know it's going to get tougher.

"I think Dereck is well above me right now. I look up to him rather than looking at him as an opponent and I'm just here to support him tonight to be fair with you.

"All I can do is focus on March 1 and my opponent Hector Avila. That's all I'm worried about. I'm not worried about anybody else except for my next opponent."

Joshua beat Dorian Darch with a convincing second round knockout on his last outing earlier this month, but in his post-fight interview the 24-year-old indicated he was not completely satisfied with the performance.

The London 2012 gold medallist explained he was not content with his showing on the night because he sets very high standards of himself as a boxer.

"My recent fights have been scheduled for six rounds and when you come out in the first round you want it to be punch-perfect," he said.

"But it can be hard to get your rhythm in the first round and I think that's what I was complaining about - not so much the performance - but the fact that I wanted it to be punch-perfect.

"I think as the rounds go on I'm going to start finding my way a bit better and in Glasgow next month hopefully I'll be able to put in a polished performance.

"I'm always trying to build on it fight-by-fight so hopefully the next performance will be better than the last.

"Styles make fights as well and a lot of the time it depends on what fighter I have got in front of me.

"But, I've been watching Avila a bit and I think it will be interesting because I think he'll suit me as an opponent."
