The Polish giant, undefeated Mariusz Wach (27-0, 15KOs), has promised to prevail where his countryman Tomasz Adamek and Albert Sosnowski have failed. Wach is the likely challenger for WBA/WBO/IBO/IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 51KOs) in the fall. The bout is being discussed for a November, December date in Hamburg.
Wach's countrymen, Tomasz Adamek and Albert Sosnowski, were both knocked out in the last few years by Wladimir's older brother, WBC champion Vitali Klitschko. Wach refuses to fall in the same manner. He wants to return to Poland with the titles.
"For sure the two Poles were 1000% prepared to fight, but apparently it was not enough. I think that due to the physical differences, they were the losers from the start. Some things you just can't overcome. I'm one of the few who can look him straight in the eye. But more importantly, I am not afraid of this fight. I'm not going to run in the ring, which he is was accustomed to seeing from other opponents," Wach told News Week.
"Since I could remember, nobody gave me a chance to make a career in boxing. Soon I will have the chance to prove to the experts that they are wrong. If I did not believe in winning, I would not be in the ring. But of course this is boxing, anything is possible. Often one blow, one misstep or one moment of distraction can decide the outcome of the fight."
