WBO bantamweight champion Jorge 'Travieso' Arce (59-6-2, 45KOs) began to take part in some tough sparring sessions for his upcoming defense, scheduled for the 18th of February in Durango. Arce has yet to obtain a new opponent after Lorenzo Parra fell through. Arce had hoped to get revenge on Parra for a 2010 twelve round draw, but the WBO refused to sanction the bout due to Parra's ranking outside of the top 15. Arce wants to overcome his next opponent and move forward to a clash with Nonito Donaire in the summer.

"The fight against Lorenzo Parra fell through and now my promoter Fernando Beltran is getting an opponent for me, but the date and venue will not chang. I will continue my training for my fans in Durango who are waiting for my title defense," Arce said. "I have big plans for this year and that includes a fight with Nonito Donaire in the Philippines if he beats [Wilfredo] 'Papito' Vazquez on February 4th in San Antonio, Texas."
