Undefeated welterweight Mike Jones improved to 26-0 when he defeated Sebastian Lujan this past Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York.  The fight was an IBF eliminator which puts Jones in position to face number one rated Randall Bailey for the vacant welterweight title. The scores were 118-110 and 119-109 twice.

Jones spoke about the Lujan fight on the most recent edition of The Boxing Lab, Boxingscene.com's official audio show. Jones received some criticism for not doing more to try and finish Lujan off early.  He said that the reason for that was the awkwardness of Lujan, who is nearly six inches shorter than Jones.

"I didn't want to take too many chances.  He was throwing punches from all different angles. He was awkward.  He was so much shorter than meand he was wild.  The punches were coming from all over the place," Jones revealed.

Next up for Jones will be his title shot versus Bailey.  When I asked Jones what it means to him to finally fight for a world title, he replied by saying, "I'm excited.  It feels great. I have waited my whole career for a title shot. I can't wait to fight Randall Bailey for the title."

The Philadelphia native plans to enjoy the holiday season and then hopes the Bailey fight happens soon.  He said that he wants to stay active so that he can stay sharp.

"I hope to be back in the ring in March or April," said Jones.  "I want to stay sharp.  I don't want to be out too long and put on weight," he continued.
