After world titles in two weight divisions in a career developed in Nicaragua, Japan and Mexico, WBA light flyweight champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez is finally set to make his American debut on October 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.

According to Gonzalez's manager Silvio Conrado, Gonzalez (29-0, 24 KO) of Managua, Nicaragua could either face former champs Omar Nino or Gilberto Keb Baas, both of Mexico.

The 24-year-old Gonzalez is coming off a dominant knockout win over Omar Salado last month in Cancun, Mex., and has scored knockouts in four of his last five contests.

Should all go well on October 1, Conrado would like to stage one more title defense for Gonzalez in 2011, before targeting a unification match with IBF light flyweight champ Ulises Solis (33-2-3, 29 KO).

"In Roman's mind, the biggest fight at 108 pounds is Ulises Solis, followed way back by Adrian Hernandez," said Conrado. "Solis would be the fight we would love to have. Roman's real dream fight however is moving up in weight and fighting Giovanni Segura.

"We just want to keep Roman as active as possible and we would like the opportunity to some day unify titles."

For this camp, Conrado says he has brought over Panamanian flyweight contender Ricardo "El Matematico" Nunez (21-2, 18 KO) for sparring.

The October 1 show will be headlined by streaking WBC super bantamweight champ Toshiaki Nishioka of Japan against former bantamweight and super bantamweight champion Rafael Marquez of Mexico.

Japanese promoter Teiken will stage the event, in association with Top Rank and Zanfer Promotions.
