Boxing's number one East Ender, Kevin Mitchell, will get some help from Albert Square favourite Jamie Borthwick on Saturday night when he carries his championship belt into the ring.

Borthwick, who plays tearaway Jay Brown in the long running soap, has become friendly with Mitchell and his brother Vinny.

And he jumped at the chance when asked to be part of Mitchell's ring walk, and will carry the IBF Intercontinental super-featherweight title on Saturday night at London's O2 Arena.

Mitchell puts the belt on the line against Russia's Alexander Hrulev, with the WBO Intercontinental title also up for grabs.

" Jamie's character is a proper little git, he's just like the Artful Dodger in Oliver Twist, so I just hope he doesn't do a runner with my belt!" said unbeaten Kevin.

" Seriously, me and my missus are massive Eastenders fans, we watch it all the time. I met Jamie through Vinnie, and it turns out he is from our neck of the woods.

" He's a big boxing fan so it seemed natural to ask him to help out, and he's well up for it."

Mitchell has already completed a photo shoot in Albert Square with brother Vinny, with the pair being billed as the "Real Mitchell Brothers", a much harder duo than Phil and Grant.

And while Kevin's career so far has seen plenty of drama - he also holds the Commonwealth super-featherweight title, he says there will be no cliffhanger on Saturday.

" I hear Hrulev is a private eye who claims to have been spying on me," he added. "Well, let's see how much spying he can do flat on his back.

" I intend to go in there and do a job on him and not let him into the fight. Then I'll travel down to Cardiff on July 21 for Alex Arthur's WBO world title fight. He's the one I want next, and I don't think I'm far off his level."
