HBO, Sauerland Event In Talks To Showcase Marco Huck

In its continued efforts to showcase boxing talent from around the globe, HBO is currently in talks to begin showcasing cruiserweight titlist Marco Huck, according to several sources.

Overall, the 29-year old – born in Serbia but who lives in and predominantly fights out of Germany – has made 12 successful defenses of the cruiserweight belt he acquired with a 12-round win over Argentina’s Victor Ramirez in Aug. ’09.

The attempt to have Huck on HBO is significant for a number of reasons. The network has rarely showcased in the cruiserweight division in more than 40 years of boxing coverage. There are also few appealing challenges awaiting Huck on this side of the world, or whom are immediately identifiable to viewers.

Naturally, the plan for Huck would be to eventually gravitate towards the heavyweight division. His lone foray north of cruiserweight resulted in a narrow and disputed points loss to Alexander Povetkin in their Feb. ’12 heavyweight title fight. 

A move back to heavyweight would come at a time when the division is once again beginning to resonate with American audiences.

However, before packing on pounds Huck and his team hope to further extend his already lengthy cruiserweight title reign, and possibly in new surroundings.

“It is no secret that we want to start plans for Marco to fight in the heavyweight division in the near future,” Kalle Sauerland said. “However, we want to continue (to make) big fights in the cruiserweight division. These plans also including fighting in the United States – and every fighter’s dream, to be shown on HBO.”
