Last Saturday night in San Antonio, WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31KOs) became the first man to defeat Adrien Broner. Now Maidana is setting his sights on Broner's good friend, WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs). The Argentine star is hoping to get in the ring with Mayweather on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"I'm going to rest and wait for someone to call me with a good fight and a good proposal. I haven't heard anything about a rematch [with Broner]. They said they want a rematch, but nothing has been said to me. I would like to have a fight at Luna Park. I would like fight Mayweather, because he is the number one fighter. Nobody has beaten him and I want to see if I can do it," Maidana said.

During the fight with Broner, Maidana said he was trying to finish him off but found Broner to be very elusive after getting badly hurt and knocked down. But he found that he was able to adapt and catch up to Broner as the rounds continued.

"It was a nice fight. It was the best fight of my career. I wouldn't allow him to box because he's a very good fighter and that would make him very hard to beat. I thought he would be harder to find and hit, but he became easier [as the fight played out]. He was very difficult to knock out, so I couldn't do it," Maidana said.
