WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs) indicates that he will face WBA champ Austin Trout (26-0, 14KOs) in a unification fight on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Trout had derailed a planned meeting between Canelo and Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto, when he scored a twelve round unanimous decision last December in Cotto's backyard of New York City.

Canelo-Trout will be the co-feature of the evening, with Floyd Maywether Jr. seated as the main event attraction, likely facing Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero with the WBC's welterweight title at stake.

"I am very happy. I didn't want him to say anything, because [Golden Boy] told us that we shouldn't say anything [about the fight]. But now I've been told that I can say something, and since it has been confirmed - that we're going with Trout for May 4th. My entire team, we are very pleased and we are going to train strong," Canelo said in a telephone interview.

Earlier this morning, reports surfaced in the Mexican press where Golden Boy matchmaker Robert Diaz was quoted a saying that an official announcement for Canelo-Trout and Mayweather-Guerrero was only a few days away.

"In the next few days there will be an announcement regarding the event," Diaz stated.
