The main event of this Friday’s Shobox telecast is in jeopardy, as Omar Henry might be forced to withdraw from his showdown with Juan Ubaldo Cabrera in Miami, Florida.

The unbeaten middleweight prospect is rumored to be suffering from gallstones. His team is seeking a second opinion, while hoping that a full night’s rest – and perhaps the wonders of modern medicine – will allow him to proceed with the bout.

“It doesn’t look good right now, but we’re treating it as a precautionary measure and hoping for better news in the next 24 hours,” cited an insider from Henry’s camp. “It could just be something that internal medicine can heal and he can move forward with the fight.”

The 25-year old Henry (12-0-1, 9KO) was viewed as one of the sport’s most promising future stars upon turning pro in 2008. However, an affinity for the glamorous life and difference of opinion with his handlers at the time helped slam the brakes on any progress he enjoyed.

Inactivity has since plagued his career, before signing with Don King last year. He only has two fights to show for it, one of which was a technical draw when a headbutt cut short his planned stay busy fight against Lester Gonzalez after just two rounds last December.

Henry turned in an impressive showing this past June, pitching a 10-round shutout against Tyrone Selders on a card in which several dedications and tributes were made to his Hall-of-Fame promoter. The bout aired live on Wealth TV, with this Friday to serve as his second straight television appearance should he heal in time to proceed with the fight.

The main event has already changed face since the show was first announced. Henry was originally scheduled to face James de la Rosa, before Cabrera (20-0, 14KO) was brought in as a replacement. The revised pairing gave the Showtime telecast a night of unbeaten fighters, with Angelo Santana (13-0, 10KO) squaring off against Juan Garcia (13-0, 8KO) in the televised co-feature.

No word has been given on a contingency plan should Henry be forced to withdraw. Representatives from Showtime did not return phone calls seeking comment.
