Don’t duck, don’t run, don’t hide - I’m right here!

That’s the audacious message of Robert Guerrero (30-1-1, 18KOs), who came to Mexico City to collect his WBC interim-welterweight belt.

Robert stepped up two weights to capture that title in July with a twelve round decision over Selcuk Aydin - but now he wants to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. next. Now he’s daring Floyd, the full WBC champion at 147-pounds, to step up and fight him:

“I want to fight the pound for pound best fighter in the world. But no one’s unbeatable. It’s having the right skills set and also being ready to whatever it takes to win the fight.”

Pressed a tad harder concerning tactics, Robert was prudently guarded. He laughed: “That’s a secret man. I ain’t giving up no trickies right now!” But he partially relented by suggesting: “You’ve got to be very intelligent in the ring with Floyd and fight with all of your arsenal together. You’ve got to be ready to go at all different ends. Whether you bang or box, or be a boxer puncher. So you’ve got to be ready in all aspects of your boxing game to beat Floyd.”

Some say Floyd standing his ground in the Cotto fight might be a hint his legs aren’t a springy as they once were. Robert mused: “The older you get…the first thing that goes is your legs. Floyd’s slowing down, and I want to get him before he slows down too much.”

Robert says he wants to fight in December. And if it’s not Floyd then another attractive option would be WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, who returns on December 15th on HBO. There are ongoing discussions to match Bradley and Guerrero.
