TOKYO, Japan - In a thrilling battle, Japanese Yota Sato defeated by unanimous decision Suriyan Sor Rungvisai of Thailand to become the new WBC super flyweight world champion minutes ago at the Korakuen Hall here in Tokyo, Japan.

The Thailander Suriyan went down to the canvas two times during the violent action of the third round, but the Thai bravely stood up and went on to engage his aggressor till the last bell.

Official scores were 116-110, 114-112 (twice), all in favor of the new world champion Yota Sato.

Filipino mandatory challenger Sylvester Lopez, who was present at ringside with his manager Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde, has been confirmed as the next opponent of Yota Sato. The Sato-Lopez title clash will take place four months from today in Japan. Details are still to be finalized.
