Staples Center, Los Angeles - Chad Dawson (31-1, 18KOs) stopped Bernard Hopkins (52-6-2, 32KOs) in the second round to capture the WBC light heavyweight title. The outcome was very freakish and controversial.

After a first round where neither guy did much, the second round was also turning into a stinker. During the second, Dawson lifted Hopkins when they were clinched on the inside. Hopkins charged in and was hovering over Dawson and leaned on his back. Dawson pushed him off in a tackle-like format, Hopkins went down hard near the ropes. He told the referee that he hurt his left shoulder and couldn't continue. The referee ruled it as a technical knockout because there wasn't a foul and Hopkins couldn't continue the fight.

There was a lot of confusion at the end and both sides were yelling at each other in the ring. In the end, the referee stood his ground and left the ending as a TKO win for Dawson.
