Undefeated cruiserweight Ryan "The Irish Outlaw" Coyne (16-0, 6KOs) is in Colorado Springs, CO, training in the high altitude for the fight of his life versus WBA cruiserweight champion Guillermo Jones (37-3-2, 29KOs). Coyne is known as a hard worker and has taken his training regimen to another level as he prepares for what will be the toughest challenge of his career.
World class trainer Jose Ponce has been a steadying influence on the prospect's career and feels that his fighter is ready for his first shot at a world title. Ponce feels that the former Mizzou linebacker's speed and athleticism sets him apart from most cruiserweights and will be a key factor in the fight versus Jones, "Ryan's athleticism in general is what is going to take him to the next level. There isn't a cruiserweight out there doing the type of work he does in the gym. He is very athletic and well conditioned and that will be on display on June 25th."
Jones is one of the elite fighters in his division. He is bigger than the average cruiserweight and has heavy hands. Ponce feels that his fighter will out box the Panamanian with the game plan he is implementing. While Ponce can't reveal the details of the game plan he did say, "We will be prepared for Guillermo Jones. You don't want to go in there and bang with him. That is just common sense. Anyone who follows or knows boxing knows that. Ryan's sheer will, athleticism and his conditioning will get him to where he needs to be. We will be ready for whatever Jones brings to the table and Ryan's advantages will lead him to victory."
Both Coyne and Ponce know that there are plenty of naysayers and doubters out there who question the St. Louis native's readiness for a world title fight. All the critics do is fuel their fire. Ponce knows what this fight means to his fighter and to himself.
"That (winning a title) has been a long time goal and to finally accomplish it will be quite an achievement. Even people we consider friends are doubting us and that is okay," Ponce stated. "We are going to go in and do our job and do it effectively and shock the world on June 25th."
Coyne added, "Winning the cruiserweight title is the only thing in my life that matters right now. I've given my entire life to this thing! Let's be very clear about something, I have a great support system and the best fans in the game but nobody in the boxing world thinks I can win this fight. From the first time I laced up the gloves, everyone in this game has been telling me what I can't do... I've proved them wrong at every turn and on June 25th I'll do it again!"
Team Coyne would also like to thank stcharleslawdog.com and therisetothetop.com for their support and for bringing The Irish Outlaw's training camp to Colorado Springs, CO.
