At the Nihon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, former WBC bantamweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa (29-3, 12KOs) moved up by two weight divisions to win a unanimous twelve round decision over previously undefeated Juan Carlos Burgos (25-1, 18KOs) to capture the vacant WBC featherweight title. The scores were 116-111, 117-110 and 117-110.

Hasegawa rebounds in a big way. In his last outing, an April bantamweight unification against Fernando Montiel, he was winning the fight until Montiel caught him with a huge hook in the fouth round and eventually stopped him.

The hook from Montiel broke Hasegawa's jaw. After healing the injury, he announced to the surprise of many in Japan that he was moving up by two weight divisions to challenge for another title.
