Former welterweight champion Paul Williams is a few days away from a possible "fight of the year" candidate. Williams challenges Sergio Martinez for the WBC middleweight title on Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Last December, they traded knockdowns in the first round and waged war for the next eleven. Williams won a close majority decision.

The one goal for Williams, above all others, is to secure a fight with Manny Pacquiao. Williams has not fought at welterweight since a June 2008 first round knockout of Carlos Quintana. According to Williams, making the welterweight limit is no problem at problem.

"I would love to get a fight with Manny Pacquiao. I'm not looking past Sergio Martinez or anything, you know? But Manny Pacquiao is the man out there now. Manny's got all of the hype right now. He's got eight world titles, so he's the man, and you've got to give him his props. Manny Pacquiao brings a lot of action into any fight. And that's what I love, a guy who brings action, because that's how I am," Williams said.

And how would the fight play out? Williams predicts an all-out war with two fighters throwing a high-volume of punches.

"I think that a fight between me and Manny Pacquiao, that's a great fight and I would really love that chance. It would play out probably with me throwing a lot of punches and with him throwing a lot of punches. You know that it would be a straight war," Williams said.

Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, and adviser Michael Koncz, have no interest in a Pacquiao-Williams match. They both feel the size difference is a bit too much, and they don't see Williams as a lucrative option. Williams is closer to 6'3 and has the same reach as a super-heavyweight like Vitali Klitschko.
