At the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, lightweight contender Robert Guerrero (28-1, 18KOs) won a ten round unanimous decision over Vicente Escobedo (22-3, 14KOs). The scores were 100-90, 98-90 and 96-92. Escobedo went down twice in the contest.

There was a clash of heads in the first round to open up a cut on the side of Escobedo's head. An inside hook by Guerrero in the third round send Escobedo down. Guerrero was outboxing Escobedo in the rounds and landing better shots. There was another clash of heads that opened up a cut above the right eyebrow of Escobedo. Guerrero was too big for Escobedo, but he never stopped trying by trading punches during several moments in the fight and put up a good punching effort in the last two rounds.
