At the ongoing WBO convention in Cartagena, Colombia, there was a suggestion to have a tournament with a series of welterweight eliminators between the top four contenders and the winner would get a shot at the current champion, Manny Pacquiao. The current top four contenders are Kell Brook, Mike Jones, Saul Alvarez and Vitaliy Demyanenko. Pacquiao is going up in weight to challenge Antonio Margarito for the vacant WBC title on November 13. He is expected to return to 147-pounds after the Margarito fight.

Alvarez has been fighting at 150-151-pounds in his last few appearances. It's not likely for him to be involved. Based on the current names being mentioned, it may not be likely for the winner to receive a direct fight with Pacquiao, who is going to be looking for the opportunities with the biggest financial benefit.
