In a major upset, unknown Ryol Li Lee (17-1-1, 8 KOs) captured the WBA's "regular" super bantamweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (41-2, 29 KOs) in at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. The scores were 115-113, 115-114 and 118-110. Many of the rounds were close, with Poonsawat having a much better workrate but Lee was landing the better punches.

Poonsawat, one of the most feared boxers in his division, has not lost since a decision defeat to Wladimir Sidorenko in July 2006. Since the loss, he had won 17 in a row and 14 of them were by knockout, which includes the 2009 three round destruction of Bernard Dunne.
