Former world champion Jhonny Gonzalez continues his training toward an IBO featherweight championship fight in Las Vegas on September 15, but upon learning that WBO champion Juan Manuel Lopez has no opponent, Gonzalez is willing to meet him in the same city on September 11. Lopez lost his opponent when Rafael Marquez injured his right hand. Lopez-Marquez is going to be postponed to a later date.

"If we get a very good offer from Juanma, we'll fight him," said Reginaldo Küchle, Jhonny's promoter.

Gonzalez is prepared to face Jackson Asiku for the IBO belt.

"It's a very interesting battle between Jhonny and Juanma, which would accentuate the rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico," said Küchle.

Gonzalez and his promoter have stated that a fight with Juanma would be attractive because the fight would be presented in a month when Mexico celebrates the bicentennial of its independence.
