Ricardo Mayorga is back on the scene again and this time he is trying to secure a fight against Ukrainian Sergiy Dzinziruk, current junior middleweight champion of the WBO, for a date of October 2. The rumored opponent for Dzinziruk was Luis Collazo, who recently said he was not interested in accepting the fight at this time and needed a tuneup or two.

Trainer Rosendo Alvarez, who took over Mayorga's business dealings, confirmed this information, and said they failed a few weeks ago to get a fight against WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm, even though the former champion from Nicaragua signed a bout agreement during a meeting with his promoter Don King .

“Because the fight with the German Sturm was not completed, Don King called us to have Ricardo sign for a fight with Dzinziruk," said Alvarez, speaking from Miami.

“The fight is scheduled for October 2 in the United States, as part of a Don King promotion in a partnership with other promoters who handle the champion. Ricardo will sign because he wants another title opportunity."

Dzinziruk is a solid champion with a record of 37-0 with 23 knockouts. He won the title in December 2005, beating Puerto Rican boxer Daniel Santos, and has since made six successful defenses.
