Mexican boxer Miguel Vazquez is finishing up the final stage of his training at the Azteca Gym in Bell, California, for the most important commitment of his boxing career so far. Vasquez fights for the vacant lightweight title recognized by the IBF against Ji Hoon Kim of Korea on August 14 in Laredo, Texas.

He is being trained by Javier Capetillo (who may not be in his corner due to his involvement in the Antonio Margarito handwraps saga). Vázquez feels relaxed, very close to the 135-pound limit, and very motivated by the great opportunity given to him. He talked about the fight with BoxingScene.com/NotiFight.com.

"I'm getting ready to be 100%. This is the opportunity of a lifetime, and I will not miss," Vazquez said.

What do you think your opponent Ji Hoon Kim?

"He's very strong, hits hard, and comes off a first round knockout win of Panamanian Ameth Diaz. He's a very educated fighter, but I also I have my thing, I have good distance and mobility and skills to counteract the power of his fists."

Your boxing ability will be the key to try to victory?

"Right, that's the basis of the preparation we are doing, hand and leg speed and counters. We are ready for any strategy that he brings."

What other qualities will you look for besides the Korean's strong fists?

"He likes to throw his right hand in a certain form. He attacks his opponent constantly, and we are working on mobility so we are not a sitting target and you must always keep your hands up."

Your body shot?

“Yes, this is another one of the things that we are working on, because it opens the way for victory."

At what stage is your training now, taking into account the proximity of the fight?

"Look, the stronger phase has passed and  I am now relaxing a bit with lighter preparation, maintaining the right weight for for the fight. I'm only about five pounds over the weight."

What promise do you have for all your fans and Mexico?

"To all my fans I promise you that Miguel Vazquez will give Mexico another world champion on August 14."
