In the next couple of days, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum and Marco Antonio Barrera will sit down to discuss his next fight. Arum and co-promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions want get him into a title fight.

There are some good options for Barrera as Top Rank has two of the lightweight champions under contracts, WBC champion Humberto Soto and WBA champion Miguel Acosta. Arum will discuss both of those options with Barrera. The accomplishment Barrera wants to make Mexican boxing history by winning a fourth title in his fourth weight division.

"Our plan, Fernando [Beltran] and myself, is to get him the lightweight championship, so he can set a record for Mexican fighting. We have some concrete plans that we will be discussing with Marco Antonio next week. Absolutely the goal is to have him fight and win the lightweight championship," Arum said.

A title fight can happen next. Arum says it depends on Barrera and whether or not he feels he's ready to go straight to a title.

"It depends on whether or not he feels he's ready to fight for a title in his next fight. If he wants another fight, we'll get him another fight. There are some great championship fights for him at 135. It all depends on him," Arum said.
