Former junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman will require knee surgery to fix the damage he sustained from an injury suffered in the seventh round of last Saturday's fight with Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium. Foreman tore his meniscus in his right knee and stretched ligaments.

During the seventh, Foreman was on the move when his leg just gave out and he went down to a knee. He would go down again from the pain and there were a few times when he stopped moving to address the pain in his knee. The fight would end in the ninth round after Cotto landed his famous left hook to the body to send Foreman down.

According to the Associated Press, Foreman saw Dr. Gerard Varlotta, a joint specialist at The Rusk Institute in New York, on Monday, and was told he would need surgery on the knee.

"I will need surgery and I don't know yet how big it is," Foreman said. "I'm going to find out soon, probably in the next day or two."
