BoxingScene.com was advised by Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer that a potential junior welterweight collision between Robert Guerrero and Joel Casamayor is being discussed for the Juan Manuel Marquez-Juan Diaz pay-per-view on July 31 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Schaefer is planning to put together a card full of action-packed competitive fights from top to bottom. Another potential fight being discussed for the pay-per-view undercard would be Mexican featherweight slugfest between former champions Jhonny Gonzalez and Daniel Ponce De Leon.

"A potential fight that is being discussed is Joel Casamayor against Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero. I would really like to put together an amazing card on July 31st for the Marquez-Diaz pay-per-view," Schaefer said to BoxingScene.com.

"I want to put together just a great card. A card that people just want to see. Another fight, one that fight fans would love because they know it's going to be all-action. Jhonny Gonzalez, who is fighting this weekend in Mexico, and if he wins, will have a fight with Daniel Ponce De Leon."

The original plan was to put Casamayor in the ring with Joan Guzman. For reasons unknown, Guzman was not interested in the fight, says Casamayor's co-manager Walter Kane.

"Guzman didn't want to fight. I don't know why he didn't want the fight. We were all set to go. We had our side all buttoned up and for whatever reason they couldn't get Guzman to accept the fight," Kane told BoxingScene.

Kane is not upset over Guzman's refusal. He views Guerrero as a bigger fight and believes Guerrero's style will make for a very entertaining encounter.

"We like the style matchup. We are ready for the fight. Richard Schaefer and Golden Boy just have to get there and get the Guerrero side buttoned up. To their defense, they are just getting brought into the picture because of the Guzman thing falling apart," Kane said.

Guerrero, who recently moved up to lightweight, would take the fight at 140-pounds. Casamayor's co-manager doesn't see the issue of size being a factor because his fighter is also moving up to a new division.

"Joel is also moving. He's traditionally a lightweight," Kane said.
