Venezuela - Information pertaining to the final hours of Edwin Valero have been disclosed by the Carabobo Police. Valero was arrested early Sunday morning for the murder of his wife, Jennifer Carolina. Valero took his own life on Monday morning in a jail cell in Carabobo. The head of the CICPC (Office of Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations), Wilmer Flores, issued a statement that Valero hung himself using his pants.

Valero's wife was found dead in a hotel room in Valencia with three stab wounds. Valero made a confession to the murder shortly after it happened to hotel employees.

As we previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Valero [before going to the police station] contacted Kenya Finol, the cousin of his wife, and informed her that Jennifer had been killed. He claimed, during the telephone conversation, that his wife was murdered by underworld thugs.

Valero gave the same story during his police interrogation. Police officials said Valero had numerous gaps and inconsistencies in his story. Valero said his relationship with Jennifer had improved. She wanted to help him recover from his addiction to drugs. They left Merida on Saturday in a blue Toyota Land Cruiser and were on route to place Valero in a rehab center.

"I was going to Cuba for rehabilitation treatment. But I had no passport, I lost it. So we we were going to La Guaira to get it for me. The flight was scheduled for yesterday [Saturday]," Valero said to police.

"We went by way of the wilderness. Even then I was drinking vodka. I drank and drank. Suddenly, I realized that someone is following me. It was about 10:30 pm. We sped up until we came to a toll and I told a sergeant that someone wanted to rob or kidnap us. After a while there, the man told us to go to the Hotel Intercontinental. I went to Valencia because they wanted to kidnap me."

Valero paid for the room in cash and claimed there were people in the lobby of the hotel giving strange looks to his wife. They went to room 624, where Valero told police he continued to ingest more alcohol until he passed out and woke up in a bed full of blood.

"I went to sleep with her, and when I got up my wife was already dead," Valero said.

Valero remembers going down to speak with a person working security for the hotel, and told him what had happened in his room. [This is where the CICPC reports that Valero disclosed his guilt]

Valero at some point broke down and told police "I can never see my daughter again." He refused to call family members, telling police that his family will hear about everything from the press.

In the mind of the boxer, he was convinced a conspiracy was taking place to frame him for a crime he did not commit.

When Valero was taken to his cell, he did not want to be in protective custody. He wanted to be with the other inmates. "I feel lonely. I need to talk to someone," Valero told police.

In the early hours on Monday, nearby prisoners alerted police officials that Valero had hanged himself in his cell.

Funeral services for Edwin and Jennifer are scheduled to take place this week.
