Promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions in Mexico, thinks a fight between WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito is possible for the tentative date of September 18 in a Las Vegas venue. Beltran promotes most of the big names in Mexico and co-promotes, along with Top Rank, Margarito's May return.

Beltran only sees the fight coming off on the September date - if Pacquiao loses the upcoming election race. Pacquiao is going up against Roy Chiongbian for a congressional seat in the Sarangani province of the Philippines.

If Pacquiao wins the political seat, he will return to the ring in November. The fight is more likely to take place in Mexico or Texas. Margarito said he would travel to the Philippines to fight Pacquiao.

Margarito has to apply for a license in whatever state he intends to see action and there is no guarantee that his application will be approved. Margarito's license was revoked last February when a plaster-like substance was found in his handwraps prior to the January fight with Shane Mosley. He returns on May 8 in Mexico against Roberto Garcia.

"Everyone is looking forward to the return of Margarito and what better than in our country ahead of a possible fight with Manny Pacquiao," Beltran said to The Record.

"If Pacquiao loses the election. Margarito and Pacquiao will fight September 18 in Las Vegas."
