Featherweight Rances Barthelemy (2-0, 2KO) opened up the non-televised portion of ESPN’s final Friday Night Fights of the season with a spectacular 1st round KO of overmatched Vineash Rungea (2-14, 0KO). Rungea looked as if he has never found a double-end bag that he couldn’t lose to, while Barthelemy was having fun punching the living breathing heavy bag.
In a minor upset in the super middleweight division, Orlando Florida’s Robert Campbell (4-2, 2KO) dismantled previously unbeaten Joel Morales (2-1, 2KO) in only 76 seconds. Campbell landed a big left hook to Morales’ head to drop him in the corner. Robert jumped on the ropes in celebration for that seamed a bit premature, but he came down and cut Joel down to size with a picture perfect left hook to Morales’ ribs. Joel went down and his corner ended the affair. Big way for Robert Campbell to celebrate his 26th birthday.
In a battle of two welterweight prospects, Michael “Pretty Boy” Jean Louis from Orlando Florida stepped in the ring to go blow to blow with Prenice “Greatness” Brewer. First round both men came out firing menacing blows for the first few moments. After a nice left hook by Jean Louis landed upstairs on Brewer, the two settled into an inside fight game. Brewer seemed sharper, faster, stronger, and smarter. Jean Louis seemed to like the attention he was getting Prenice as he was eating combos and being turned like a rotisserie chicken after the punches were done. The combo punching and slick defensive movements of Prenice Brewer easily carried the first two rounds for the man from Cleveland.
Brewer tried to be too cute along the ropes and “Pretty Boy” almost turned out his lights with a wild left hook. The follow up by Jean Louis wasn’t pretty at all as he was swinging wildly as if this was a drunken bar fight. While he tired himself out, Brewer regained his wits and a true brawl ensued at the end of the 3rd. Fans were on their feet to cheer on the two men heading into the fourth round. With his wits about him, Brewer put on a boxing clinic, which induced rave reviews from Lou Dibella ringside, but not to be outdone, Jean Louis showed off his chin during the stanza. The first half of the fight seemed to sap the energy out of both combatants, which in turn gave Prenice the perfect opportunity to showcase his superior skillset and carry the second half of the fight. Outlasting a late surge, Prenice Brewer took a unanimous decision by scores of 78-74, 79-73, 77-75 improving his record to (13-0-1, 6KO) while Michael Jean Louis suffers his first career loss and falls to (9-1, 8KO).
