According to reports overseas, the Mexican boxing commission has received an application that seeks dates in late September or early October for former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito to make his ring return at Plaza Monumental in Tijuana. The opponent has not been named but several rumors over the last few months have linked former champions Zab Judah and Carlos Baldomir as Margarito's comeback foes. Unlikely that Judah would head to Mexico to face Margarito. Mexico's Zanfar Promotions, who work with Top Rank, are said to be involved in the promotion of the event.

The secretary of the commission in Tijuana, Edmundo Hernandez Vergara, confirmed the receipt of the application. The WBC has already announced that Margarito will re-enter their welterweight rankings in the next few weeks.

Margarito has been sitting out since the California State Athletic Commission revoked his license in February during a hearing. Margarito, along with trainer Javier Capetillo, were found liable for the inserts, containing an illegal plaster-like substance, that were discovered in Margarito's wraps prior to the January 24 bout with Shane Mosley.

Margarito's attorneys are embroiled in a legal battle with the CSAC to overturn their decision and/or reduce the length of Margarito's ban that prevents him from fighting in America.
