It appears that a tentative agreement has been reached for a unification bout between WBO junior flyweight champion Ivan Calderon (32-0, 6KOs) of Puerto Rico and WBA interim-junior flyweight champ Cesar Canchila (27-1, 21KOs) of Colombia. Calderon was pulled from the March 28 card that is being put together by Puerto Rico Best Boxing. The fight, if the contracts get signed, would take place on May 23.

"I have been assured that at least I have a date and an opponent. I know this is a lengthy process and it is not the same as when you are not a champion. When you're a champion, it is more difficult to get opponents, and a lot of people are not willing to take the risk and fight," Calderon told El Nuevo Dia.

Calderon wanted a unification fight on the March date, but none of the other champions at the weight were available.

"The fight with Canchila is not signed but we do have an agreement," said Ivan Rivera of Puerto Rico Best Boxing
