Miguel Cotto was scheduled to face James Kirkland on February 25th at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas, but according to industry sources the upcoming HBO Pay-Per-View event is going to be postponed. Editor's Note: Cotto's team has confirmed the fight is now off.

No official announcement has been made by the organizers of this event but the word is that Kirkland may have suffered a cut in training camp. Roc Nation says the injury is a fractured nose.

Cotto has not seen action since losing the WBC middleweight title to Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on November 21, 2015. There were months of negotiations to finalized a catch-weight bout with fellow former four division world champion Juan Manual Marquez, but the fight fell apart after both boxers were unable to reach an agreement on the contracted weight.

Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) was then being tabbed to return to the ring in the fall of 2016, but those plans never got going after the Roc Nation Sports was unable to secure a suitable opponent for the planned pay-per-view. The Puerto Rican superstar's last win came in June 2015, when he knocked out Daniel Geale to retain the WBC belt.

Kirkland was returning from an even bigger stint of inactivity, with his last fight taking place on May 9th of 2015, when he was blasted out in three rounds by Canelo. Coming into that fight, Kirkland had been inactive since December 2013, when he viciously stopped then undefeated Glen Tapia.

Kirkland (32-2, 28 KOs) was very eager to restart his career, and even reunited with former trainer Ann Wolfe. Both of Kirkland's career defeats took place without Wolfe in his corner.
