Despite not having fought since being stopped in three rounds by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on May 9th of 2015, James Kirkland (32-2, 28KOs) is still in the mix to face marquee names.

Kirkland has been approached about the possibility of fighting former four division world champion Miguel Cotto in the fall. Cotto has been out of the ring since losing a twelve round decision to Canelo last November at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

His attorney/adviser, Mike Miller told Boxingscene.com on Wednesday afternoon,"We're still waiting to hear from Roc Nation (Sports) if we're going to be able to make the fight with Miguel Cotto.

"I understand Cotto's on vacation and we've been told that he'll make a decision once he returns. So we're hopeful and optimistic that we'll be able to fight Cotto later this year."

According to Miller a weight limit of 153 pounds,"is what we've talked about."

There have been published reports of a possible fight versus former IBF middleweight belt-holder, David Lemieux.

"They've talked about it, I'm hoping for the Cotto fight,"said Miller.

Whenever he returns to the ring, it looks like Kirkland will be back with trainer Anne Wolfe.

"The last I heard they're talking and ready to work together,"explained Miller."It's going to be reunited like 'Peaches and Herb.'"
